Last week I attended a motivational seminar in Dallas entitled "Success 94." This was not something I did in conjunction with my network marketing business -- I went mainly because I wanted to hear the speakers, who included Zig Ziglar, Norman Schwarzkopf, Robert Schuller, Roger Staubach and Pres. George Bush.
Well, let me tell you -- there are a lot of people interested in success! Seventeen thousand people showed up, creating a traffic gridlock in downtown Dallas that was featured on the evening news.
The speakers were interesting. Some, like General Schwarzkopf, were even inspiring. But what really impressed me were the people in the audience. Thousands and thousands of people who had paid upwards of $200 in search of "success." People who were searching for something that would give a positive direction to their lives.
Nothing was said about network marketing at the seminar. But I came away from it more convinced than ever about the powerful potential of our industry. Seeing so many people in one place who so desperately want to succeed was the most inspiring part of the event. Network marketing can harness that power.
There is a real emptiness in the world today. Our values have been shot to hell, the work ethic has all but disappeared, downsizing and corporate restructuring have make job security a thing of the past. Millions of people are searching for something to hold on to. They are not asking for a handout, just an opportunity to work hard and build a life for themselves. They have lost faith in the old institutions.
Many of the problems we face today are the direct result of one very basic, underlying problem. Too many people are no longer responsible for their own lives.
Network marketing has the power to change that. To make people responsible for their own lives. To show people how they can help themselves by helping others. Zig Ziglar says that "You can have everything in life you want -- if you will just help enough other people get what they want." That is a lesson that our society desperately needs to understand. And, it is the epitome of network marketing.
