Q: What advice do the MLM "veterans" on this newsgroup give to people who have just started or are considering a network marketing business opportunity?
A:
1) If you're gonna do it, DO IT. Don't get in and do a half baked attempt at it! Work the business, because it is a real business and takes REAL WORK to succeed.
2) Map out your Goals, and make them REALISTIC, no pie in the sky figures...
3) Concentrate on one MLM, don't diversify yourself into oblivion. There are exceptions to this rule, such as adding a secondary MLM which can be used primarily to build your 1st MLM.
4) Expect a lot of people to tell you it won't work, and to realize that they are partially correct. They are partially correct, because a lot of folks join an MLM Looking for a get rich quick program, and MLM is not that at all. Based on those misguided ideas, many people do fail. Others do fail because they chose the wrong MLM, as different MLM's fit different people.
NO ONE MLM WORKS FOR EVERYONE!
5) Expect your upline to offer guidance and support, but always remember this crucial point: When you join, you are YOUR OWN BOSS, and answer to no one, unless and until you violate the terms of your distributorship with the company. Your sponsor and those upline, cannot and should not dictate how you should run your company.
6) Expect to keep working at least two years to realize any sizable income that you could consider enough to quit a job with. Many programs take longer than that, but a big part of the how long is up to you. You choose how many hours per week you INVEST in your business.
7) Keep asking for advise, and always remember that the best advice is to believe in yourself and keep working at it.....
8) If you join a Product based MLM, use the products, for if you do not believe in the products you CANNOT SELL THEM.
9) Remember that as a MLM Distributor, you are selling YOURSELF first, then the business second. Present yourself as someone they can relate to, but yet business like.
10) Be upfront with people. If they ask is it MLM, tell them with a big smile, and emphatically YES!! If they ask for the name of the company that makes the products, do NOT use your *company name*, tell them the name of the company you are a distributor for, and use the same positive enthusiasm mentioned above. Some people will be instantly turned off, when you mention that it is MLM, and others will instantly want to learn more.
11) When you come to a person that tries to steal your ambitions and goals, always remember
SW, SW, SW, N! (Some will, some won't, so what, NEXT!)
and then move on to the next.
12) When someone says no, there can be a ton of reasons they said no. Politely and carefully feel them out as to the why they said no. Sometimes, it is simply a question that they have not understood the marketing plan, and need some questions answered.
13) Go for it! MLM is a great Business Opportunity! (remember though, it will only become what you make it)
