Keep it simple and just do it

By Ralph Marston

When you think about it, network marketing is really a simple business. Not easy, but simple. One of the biggest problems is that people try to make it complicated. I know that has been a big problem for me. I constantly have to remind myself to keep it simple and duplicatible. The most successful people in the business understand that it MUST be kept simple in order to grow.

Network marketing is a fantastic business because, unlike many other kinds of work, it permits you to integrate your life and your values into your profession. This works both ways. The more successful you are at living a full and vibrant life, the more successful you will be in network marketing. And the more successful you are in your network marketing business, the more full your life will be. It is an endless upward spiral. Once you get on you won't want to stop.

So the first step toward success is to be the best person you can be. Physically, mentally, spiritually. Get your weight under control, follow a regular exercise program, eat good food and quit putting toxic substances in your body, drink plenty of pure water. Read, study, learn and be curious about life. Join organizations, volunteer to help in your community. Get some joy in your life, and keep yourself in balance.

Make sure you have a well defined direction in your life. Contemplate and focus not only on your goals but your purpose in life as well. And be congruent. If something you are doing does not fit in with your purpose in life, it will never work. Find a way to get out of it and get focused on what matters to you. Don't be afraid to make a commitment to your goals and find a way to keep yourself focused on them. Find your reason for doing the business -- if you have a big enough WHY, the HOW will take care of itself. Your commitment, just like everything else you do, will be duplicated through your downline.

Remember this is a long-term business you are building. Build with an eye to the future. Lock in your downline for the long haul by helping them to become as committed as you are to the products and the business, and by helping them to become successful. Choose a company that has the resources to grow and prosper for years and years. Resist the temptation to make a few quick bucks and concentrate of building a solid foundation for the future.

Commit yourself to helping others - sincerely, and out of proportion to what you expect to get. Do this long enough and consistently enough and your rewards will come flooding in. Though you don't want to let people take advantage of you, go out of your way to help people with no thought of what you will get back. Network marketing is one of the few businesses that will permit you to operate this way. In fact, in network marketing you can hardly afford not to operate this way. When you are truly committed to helping others succeed, you set your downline up for success from the start. But don't force yourself on your people. Help them only if they ask for it or want it. Don't nag -- people get into this business so they won't have a boss. If they want to do it they'll do it and they'll ask for your help. Simply make clear to them that you're available and be there when they need you.

Keep your business simple and duplicatible. Don't go out and develop some complicated computer program for tracking prospects and inventory and downline. It's a waste of time. It is tempting to sit around and devise brilliant systems that will carry your business to unheard-of heights, but while you are designing your "perfect system" you're not talking to people, and that's what this business is all about.

Don't take rejection personally. If someone listens to your presentation and is not interested, that's their problem, not yours. As Mark Yarnell puts it, "SW, SW, SW, N -- some will, some won't, so what, next." And don't try to force it down people's throats. You can't want the business for people, they must want it for themselves. Reaction to your presentation is largely a matter of timing. If they are ready for what you've got, they'll join you, no matter how great or how lousy your presentation is. If they're not ready right now, even the most stunning presentation will fail to move them. This is not a business of convincing, it is a business of sorting. Of simply finding enough people to show the business to, until you find the ones who are going to get excited about it. Don't waste your time trying to persuade someone to do the business. If they don't see it for themselves, they won't do it anyway, no matter how persuasive you are. There are plenty of people who will see it. Work on finding them and helping them to succeed.

The most successful people in network marketing are the ones that just go out and do it. They don't wait around devising the perfect system, they simply talk to everyone they know and even people they don't know. They plug into their company's proven system and use that system to leverage their efforts. They make a sincere commitment to themselves and to helping other people succeed. They keep the business simple and thereby permit as many people as want to, to get involved and succeed.
