Have you ever taken the kids down to the lake, bread in hand, to feed the ducks? Next time you do, pay attention to how they operate and learn.
Watch the ducks as they move around in their flock. They huddle together for protection. Should an adventurous individual try to move too far away, you will notice three things:
If you are successful in network marketing, you have already been through this process. You may not even remember it happening to you. It will happen to your new distributors!
It is up to you to protect your new distributors from their friends and relatives. This is why I never suggest a new distributor go to their "warm market" first. This can kill a person's enthusiasm for network marketing and/or your product faster than anything else. You need to have a strategy for your distributors to enjoy some initial success before they approach close friends and relatives.
A sample strategy can be as simple as having them only approach their "luke warm market" (associates and casual friends) with your help. If you have a lead service or advertisement, share some prospects and help them to make the first calls. Do anything you can to help them recruit their first two or three distributors. This builds the confidence and commitment needed to effectively approach a "warm market" prospect.
Finally, warn your new distributors about the ducks! They are out there and if you do not prepare your people, the ducks will be biting at their heels to slow them down.
PS. Helping your new distributor does not mean getting them to go to more meetings, giving them MLM books, audios and videos. It means walking with them through their initial baby steps. Remember the self help publishing industry is a multi-billion dollar enterprise. The vast majority (90%+) of the writers and speakers in the motivation field give the same advice! If people could actually learn and empower themselves for more than a few days from any of these books, tapes or seminars, there would be far fewer of them in existence. Nothing is more powerful than personal coaching.
